WML gave sportsbike riders racing inspired casual clothing to wear under their leathers or off their bike. From 2001 to 2005 WML products were sold throughout Australia and New Zealand through a number of motorcycle retailers and the company's own website. WML came to a sudden and unexpected stop when the passion for sports motorcycles was literally knocked out of Matt in mid 2005. Blindsided by a young driver who failed to give way, Matt aboard his beloved Honda VTR 1000 SP2 and the car collided with a 90km/h impact speed. Whilst the driver walked away, most probably still on his mobile phone, Matt lay unconscious in the middle of the road yet to discover that he had broken his neck in two places and his back in five places (along with a host of other breakages and internal destruction). At the time of the accident WML products were featured in 9 motorcycle magazines in one month and business was booming, but it was difficult to remain motivated and focused about the brands popularity given what he was going through. During the long and arduous recovery Matt reflected on what the company and the brand had accomplished to date and what its direction would be now. Given that Matt's passion for classic motoring, performance cars and motorsport history remained undeterred and whilst lying flat on his back "trussed up like a chicken" in hospital, he decided to move ahead with an historic motorsports brand and apply the lessons learnt from WML and put his energy into his new venture R3 – RACE RALLY ROAD. After a long period of physiotherapy and recuperation the new brand was trademarked and work commenced on initial designs for production and the establishment of racerallyroad.com. With further drive and support from his wife Amber, Matt launched R3 to the public at The Festival of Speed on Tweed (Australia's version of the Goodwood Festival of Speed) and the couple has not looked back. Following extensive national media exposure and a concerted public relations campaign, R3 – RACE RALLY ROAD products have now sold to customers in every state of Australia and repeat sales have made it to the shores of Although Matt has vowed to never get back on a bike.unless of course it is on a track with no car drivers gunning to cut him off, he does know that his company will always remain enthusiastic and highly motivated about bringing unique motoring designs to the legions of enthusiasts around the world and with the company's heritage deeply planted in motorsport history and high performance road cars, they will always produce a diverse range of products to suit everyone. From Le Mans to Monte Carlo to Mount Panorama . . . and every road in between . . . |
