R3 - Race Rally Road is proud to present this design as a tribute to one of the toughest touring cars ever developed and raced in Australia. After being rushed into racing service, the untried Holden Torana A9X ultimately lost its debut Bathurst race in 1977 to the Ford Falcons. However, the A9X package was soon refined and proved dominant during the following two seasons of touring car racing in Australia, claiming both the 1978 and 1979 Australian Touring Car Championship titles, the 1978 Sandown 500 enduro and the Bathurst 1000 races of 1978 and 1979 . . . with Peter Brock winning the 1979 1000km endurance race by a (never to be repeated) 6 lap margin and given that his No 1 rival Allan Moffat, was observing from the commentary box, Brocky went on to break the lap record on the very last lap of the race! |
