The twin cam MKI Escort, first introduced in 1968, was an evolutionary development of the Lotus Cortina and subsequently laid the foundations for establishing Ford’s formidable reputation in rallying and lifting of its rather mundane model image to that of a motor sport icon.
The MKI Escort was winning world rallies from 1968 to 1974 followed by the MKII Escort whose successes were legendary – 17 world rally wins from 1975 to 1981.
The Escort in its various MKI and MKII forms dominated British rallying, winning the RAC Rally 8 times and the MKII carried off both World Rally Championship titles in 1979.
The MKII RS1800 Escort has won more rallies at world, international and national levels than any other car, and is still winning historic events today. A true motorsport legend! |
